In March, the fifth graders at the Ahern Middle School participate in the annual Read Across America Day. During the day long event all students are read to by adult volunteers. Students enjoy the attention of the readers and the stories they read. In the afternoon they assemble in the cafeteria to find out who won the poetry and poster contests. After winners are announced everyone has cake and juice to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
